Staff Spotlight: Meet Misha

Ramisha (Misha) Khan

Hello everyone! I’m so excited to join the team here at Bloomfield hills. Michigan has been a nice change of pace for me as I am used to the heat of Houston, Texas. I grew up being drawn to quiet places in nature as I believe it is healing to the soul, and vital to our mental health.

My passion and enthusiasm for studying animal behavior landed me an opportunity in my undergrad to study mating habits of Peafowl, where I worked with a team to use camera devices that would track eye movements in peahen to pinpoint what each female was looking for in a mate. After being able to study wildlife and fisheries at Texas A&M University, I fulfilled my dream of working hands-on with exotic bird species at the Houston Zoo as a bird keeper. From helping with conservation efforts of the critically endangered Attwater’s Prairie chicken, to doing presentations for guests, I immersed myself in inspiring the public about conservation issues.

Getting married and moving during Covid was no easy feat but my experiences in working with wildlife has made me open to new and exciting challenges, and I cannot wait to put all my energy into teaching. I believe children have a natural affinity with nature, and as a guide it’s so fulfilling to see that spark of curiosity in a student who is learning to love the natural world around them. My hope is to spark a sense of wonder and cultivate an inclusive environment for all children in which they can learn to navigate the challenges of an ever-changing environment.
