Winter 2022
February 16th: Music!
Exploring music outdoors is great because you can be as LOUD as you want! Nature also provides us with beautiful music whether it’s singing birds or using sticks for drumming. Upon arrival, our visiting tots were able to explore the different sounds we can make in and from nature.
S l o w …… FAST!
The children listened to multiple songs with different tempos to determine if they should play their instruments fast or slow. Some songs even changed tempo multiple times so they had to really listen carefully! This type of music exercise encourages recognizing patterns, listening for and following directions, and awareness of space and body movement.
February 9th
This week, toddlers explored the winter snow through art and science!
Loose Parts
Loose parts are assorted open-ended materials that children and move, design, build, and explore in many different ways. They provide the perfect opportunity for sensory discovery, imaginative thinking, practicing fine and gross motor skills, and encourages problem solving. Upon arrival, the children were provided with a selection of natural loose parts to investigate.
Spray Painting Snow

Learning together!
The toddlers and their teacher are sharing a meaningful experience of learning words in American Sign Language together! This week we learned how to sign “music”.
Practice playing fast and slow with this fun, tempo-changing song!
Parent Resources
The children worked together to build a mound of snow for the volcano. Once we felt it was big enough, Ms. Leigh added the special ingredients and we counted down the eruption!
Watch our snow volcano erupt!
Toddlers kicked off our winter classes with an emersion in sensory explorations varying from feeling the soft fur from an animal pelt to discovering natural materials frozen in cubes of ice.
The tots loved playing with the garden sensory bucket and worked together to scoop all of the soil out onto the ground.
Ice can be a great canvas for painting! The unique surface led to beautiful marbled swirls of color.
Not only does painting allow creative expression but it also provides children with an opportunity to develop fine motor skills.
