Thank you to the Friends of Johnson Nature Center for partnering with The Detroit Institute of Arts!

The DIA Inside Out program has been running for 14 years and has paintings throughout Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties. Erin Watson, President of the Friends of Johnson Nature Center (FOJNC), successfully applied for the grant for the Detroit Institute of Arts Inside Out Program. We are grateful that The Johnson Nature Center was selected to feature the largest number of DIA paintings in the tri-county area (10 pieces of artwork) .

The pandemic has really taken a toll on our communities' well being.  The FOJNC seeks out of creative ways to bring health and wellness into our natural space. Our goal is to get our community outside walking the trails, breathing the fresh air, and taking in all the natural beauty the Johnson Nature Center while seamlessly fulfilling positive physical and mental health benefits from outdoor play and exercise.  The DIA’s Inside Out paintings along our trails provides an additional layer of beauty while allowing a magical sensory stroll for families and loved ones of all ages.

We encourage you all to take time for your own mental health and wellbeing.  We hope our beautiful trails and these amazing paintings inspire you to take some time for yourselves to reflect on everything beautiful in Bloomfield Hills.  The Johnson Nature Center is open daily from 8:00am till dusk.  The visiting center is open Saturdays from 10:00am-4:00. Be sure to look for additional DIA programs at the Johnson Nature Center. More information is coming soon.
