Staff Spotlight: Hello Brooke!

Brooke Larm has served as the Education Specialist at Johnson Nature Center and Bowers School Farm since October 2020. She grew up in Grayling, MI on the AuSable River and has lived and taught in both Mexico and Germany, where her son, Griffin, was born. This upcoming school year, Griffin will be moving up from Way Elementary to Bloomfield Hills Middle School.

She often shares the quote by a mentor and advisor, David Sobel, in which he states, "If we want children to flourish, to become truly empowered, let us allow them to love the earth before we ask them to save it." Over the past year, Brooke has found joy in getting to know Johnson Nature Center, discovering the many ways it serves students and the community as a source of authentic learning, as a place to restore and renew, and as an environment to protect and preserve. Among change and transition come new opportunities to engage people with the site; from volunteering to engaging in a program or simply enjoying a hike, there is something for everyone to give or gain through experiences in nature right here in urban Southeast Michigan.
