Welcome to camp! Today we had a day full of exploring and learning about the forest around us. The explorers made their own ecosystem by collecting materials in the forest around them and learning about the materials they were using. The explorers also got to learn about animal care when they took care of some of our animals. Then we ended camp with a fun tie-dye activity tie-dying some bucket hats.

Deep in the forest, these young explorers learned skills they would need in the woods while still having fun. Young explorers built their own campfires and even got to roast some marshmallows and explore the woods. Some campers even enjoyed the mud kitchen and looking for slugs and looking for other critters in the woods.

A little rain never hurt anybody! Today started off a little rainy and cold but that didn’t stop these campers from having a good time! Today was a day full of learning and excitement when we had a special guest speaker come to teach the explorers about bugs. The campers got to touch some of the insects and learned the difference between insects and arachnids. From beetles to scorpions these explorers got all kinds of information and even a little beetle take-home so the fun continues at home. After learning all about these insects the campers created their own bugs. Campers then pod dipped and caught things such as tadpoles and other small pound creatures. Along with spotting a few turtles and fish as well. Then some explorers made their own shelter using wood found in the forest to close out their eventful day.

It might have rained yesterday but today was full of sunshine but it was a hot one today. However, the heat didn’t stop these explorers. We started on a bug hike using the tools we learned yesterday to catch and observe the bugs we caught under the microscope to observe them up close. Then it was time to play and get dirty in the mud kitchen making mud creations or just exploring the ponds water. With all the fun we had yesterday catching things in the pond we decided to have that fun again but, this time the explorers took a closer look in the pod and went all in. The explorers were ecstatic to find three tadpoles all of which were at different stages of their lives giving them their own unique look one group even found a crayfish. After we found the pond animals we were able to keep a few tadpoles and our crayfish and re-homed them in the Nature Centers touch tank.
